How does the Image to ASCII Converter work?

The tool samples image pixels onto an off-screen HTML5 Canvas and computes the perceived luminance according to the ITU-R BT.709 standard (0.2126*R + 0.7152*G + 0.0722*B). It then matches the brightness of each block to the corresponding ASCII character density, compensating for monospace font aspect ratios.
